Montgomery

Well known as the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag of Texas, Montgomery – located approximately 15 miles west of Conroe and 50 miles from Houston – was founded in 1837, making it one of the oldest cities in Texas. It is part of Montgomery County, which was the third county formed under the Republic of Texas. Montgomery retains much of its original charm, and has a population of around a thousand people within the city limits, although many more live in the surrounding communities. All this gives it a unique appeal and makes it a highly desirable place to live.

Things to Do

The city of Montgomery offers a number of attractions and things to do, some of them reflecting the city’s historical importance, including its well-preserved 19th-century Historic Downtown District. Other sites of interest include the Cork This! Winery also located in downtown Montgomery, where visitors can experience locally made wine and which offers opportunities for corporate retreats, parties and other celebrations.

Elsewhere, the Fernland historical park draws on and preserves the legacy of Montgomery with examples of early Texas architecture and a taste of life in the fledgling state. Here, the log homes and cabins are some of the oldest remaining structures in Texas. Meanwhile, the nearby Lake Conroe provides outstanding opportunities for water sports like boating, water-skiing, swimming, and more.

The city also boasts a number of eateries from the Walden Yacht Club and Cozy Grape Wine Bar and Bistro to Japanese, Mexican, European, Italian and Thai restaurants, plus a highly recommended deli, and, of course, fast-food options. Vibrant nightlife can also be found after dark throughout the city. As far as shopping is concerned, residents can enjoy a variety of retail choices from boutique clothing shops to home décor vendors.
